On the 20th of April, 2017, Ministers of Industry and Agriculture from West Africa met  at the Radisson Blu hotel in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.  Under the auspices of ECOWAS, with the support of ONUDI, the meeting was to discuss the development of the cashew industry in West Africa. Mr. Jean Claude Brou, the Minister of Mines and Industry of Côte d’Ivoire, opened the meeting with a statement on the relative small amount of processing in Africa in relation to the large amounts of production. As a result, participants at this meeting were to come up with resolutions that will accelerate the industrialization of the cashew sector in ECOWAS countries. One of such resolutions made by the honorable ministers is to develop processing in ECOWAS countries up to 50% of crops grown by 2030.
