Potential of Cashew Industry
According to estimates from the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Ghana could generate over US$660 million annually from the cashew industry. However, achieving this goal requires effective regulation, increased processing capacity, and improved export facilitation. These findings were outlined by Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, CEO of the TCDA, during a meeting with various sector stakeholders.
Strengthening the Cashew Value Chain
The purpose of the stakeholder meeting was to foster stronger links across the cashew value chain, as well as to enhance understanding of the TCDA regulations, licensing requirements, and pricing mechanisms. The TCDA admitted that weak regulation, inconsistent pricing, and limited processing capacity have held back the sector from realizing its full economic potential.
