African Cashew Alliance

The Cashew Processors and Exporters Association of Ghana (CAPEAG) hosted together with the Cashew Development Project (CDP) the Ghana Cashew Week April 17-19 2007 in Accra.

With the theme "Cashing in on Cashews" the purpose of the week was to create more awareness of the cashew sector in Ghana including discussions about how the optimize the sector in the future.

Over 200 stakeholders representing each link in the cashew value chain—from small-scale farmers to international cashew traders—participated in lectures and discussion sessions about how to grow Ghana’s cashew industry. The workshop included presentations about “Research and Development”, “Processing and Marketing”, “International Perspectives, Marketing and Quality” and “Opportunities for Financing”. Furthermore farmers, donors and buyers gave their view on the cashew business in Ghana. Mr. Robert Yapo, Vice President of the African Cashew Alliance gave a presentation of the ACA including the highlights from the Annual Meeting in Mozambique.

Outside, participants networked as they sampled a wide range of cashew products with market potential in the region. The Alliance provided support for the workshop as part of its efforts to promote cashew production, processing, and consumption in the region and internationally.
