Maputo Security Situation Update |
Monday, 6th of September 2010
The security situation in Maputo, Mozambique, is calm and back to normal after last week’s violent demonstrations and riots against the rising cost of living (bread, electricity, fuel). Ten people were killed in clashes with the police and a large number of protesters were arrested. On Saturday, markets and shops around the city re-opened and today, Monday 7th September, schools, administration re-opened and public transport is functioning normally. No damage was inflicted on any foreign citizens, the communication via mobile phone, internet and phone is unproblematic.
The ACA Secretariat would like to assure its members and participants of the 5th Annual Conference that the event will take place as planned from 14-16 September in the Joaquim Chissano Centre. The ACA has arranged transport shuttle services from the Maputo airport to the conference hotels and from the hotels to the conference venue. All registered participants will be picked up at the airport.
