Processing is the way for West Africa to cash in on cashew Print E-mail

Cashew, originally sown in much of West Africa for reforestation and to prevent soil erosion, continues cultivating export and earnings potential for the region. Last year, seven West African countries – Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria and Senegal – produced over 450,000 metric tons, almost a third of the world’s cashew crop (1.65 million tons), and that percentage is rising.

The Administrative Manager of the Magbema Cashew Farmers Association (MCFA) KAM CASHEW Enterprise Mr. Agustine Y Sesay has revealed that his organization is basically engaged in the cultivation of Cashew nuts nationwide. He made this disclosure on Tuesday 6th May 2008 at his Tower Hill Office in Freetown.

Cashew Review: Steady market ahead Print E-mail

There was some more activity in the cashew market this week, mainly with USA but some sales to Europe and other markets as well.

But there was hardly any change in prices - business was done for W240 between 3.15 and 3.20, W320 from 2.90 to 3.00, W450 around 2.75 FOB. Most of the business was for nearbys but there were some sales upto Aug/Sep as well. Activity with Vietnam seems to be very limited - until pending issues are resolved and shipments pick up, new business is likely to be slow.
