Cashew sector booms on export, domestic demand Print E-mail

India has retained its leadership position in cashew exports in 2007-08 by exporting 1,14,340 tonnes valued at Rs 2289 crore. Vietnam and Brazil are closely behind India in exports.

Kenya: Ban Cashew Nut Exports, State Told Print E-mail

The Government has been urged to ban the exportation of raw cashew nuts to revive the industry.

The chairman of Millennium Management Limited, a local nut processing firm, Mr Charanjit Singh Hayer, said cashew nut processors only handle about 22,000 tons of the raw nuts produced in the country. He said that it was estimated that more was exported to India by other players in the industry.

Sharp rise in cashewnut harvest brings economic boom to farmers Print E-mail

Cashewnut production in the country went up from 92,573,188 tonnes in the year 2005/06 to 99,106,720 tonnes in 2006/07, resulting in a boom in sales from 43,962,278,230/- in 2005/06 to 64,07,495,8105/- in the 2006/07 season.

The Cashew tree (Anacardium Occidentale), is a tropical evergreen native to the Americas but is now widely cultivated in Asia and Africa.

Cashew in its natural form is a soft, white, meaty kernel contained within the hard shells of kidney shaped, raw cashew seeds and it is consumed all over the world as a snack or used as a food ingredient.
