Survey to determine viability of cashew nut production |

A research company in Mombasa in collaboration with the Ministry of
Agriculture and Agricultural Business Development organisation is
conducting a cashew nut survey in Coast province to establish the
viability of the cash crop as a business venture. After the five-month
study which is being carried out in cashew nut growing areas of Lamu,
Mpeketoni, Kilifi and Kwale, researchers will be able to establish the
number of cashew nut trees, their age, acreage under cultivation and
production and marketing challenges facing farmers.

Mwinyi counsels cashewnut stakeholders |

Former President Ali Hassan Mwinyi has called on the Africa Cashew
Alliance (ACA) stakeholders to find remedy to the exploitation of
cashewnuts farmers and consumers. Mr Mwinyi said when opening the Third
ACA Annual Conference drawing participants from over 10 countries in
Africa, the fate of cashewnut farmers lies in the hands of those in the
industry.
