Former President Ali Hassan Mwinyi has called on the Africa Cashew Alliance (ACA) stakeholders to find remedy to the exploitation of cashewnuts farmers and consumers. Mr Mwinyi said when opening the Third ACA Annual Conference drawing participants from over 10 countries in Africa, the fate of cashewnut farmers lies in the hands of those in the industry.

The popularity of cashewnuts anywhere in the world needs no emphasis. It's a favourite snack and a health food and is used as an ingredient in confectionaries and recipes. There is also medicinal value attached to them.

The plight of small cashew nut growers will be top on the agenda when stakeholders from various countries that produce the crop meet in Dar es Salaam from today. The President of Africa Cashew Alliance (ACA) Executive Committee, Mr Carlos Costa, said yesterday that the three-day meeting would be attended by more than 100 delegates including cashewnut growers, buyers and processors.
